About Me

My photo
Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Not all work

Sunday was not all work. Around 2.00pm I headed off to Cottesloe for a late lunch with a friend. The Indiana , formerly the Indian Tea House, has long been a Perth favourite, so when its name was mentioned I was more than happy to head out that way.

The lunch menu sounded interesting and had a selection of both light lunches and more substantial fare. The prices appeared reasonable and well within the current range for like restaurants in Perth.

My friend decided on, twice cooked pork belly with a star anise sauce.

Also on a spicy theme I went for, crispy skin salmon with harissa.

Mine was served with a spinach and chick pea salad, whilst my friend's was pretty light on accompaniments.

My salmon was cooked to perfection, being moist and the skin was certainly cripsy. Unfortunately I had difficulty tasting anything but the fish as the harrisa barely made an appearance. Similarly when I quizzed my friend, she made the comment that the star anise flavour was subtle, very subtle, and the skin not at all crisp. There was a definite air of disappointment. However, when the dessert made an appearance, I was a little mollified as the apple dish was quite delicious.

The service was overall very good, although it did take a long time for my companion's second glass of bubbly to appear. The actual ambiance in and out of the restaurant was delightful and whilst not entirely happy with the meal, I would still recommend it. After all we were very late and the lunch service was almost at an end when we arrived.
