About Me

Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Peak Oil

I thought I had an idea what, " Peak Oil" meant, but I didn't.

Once again I spent an early Saturday morning finding out, via a film on the subject, more about our planet and what we, that is the human race, are doing to it. I probably do not have to spell it out, but we do not look too good.

First to clarify what the term, "Peak Oil" actually means.....it is the point at which an oil well or field reaches its maximum production, as the name suggests it reaches its peak. From then on it is in decline. Now if most oil finds were made in the 1950s and 60s., it is not hard to imagine that with our insatiable greed for the stuff, many oil fields have already reached or are about to reach, Peak Oil.

Apparently, according to the not so public research that is being carried out, all the world's oil will be in decline by 2014. Probably that would not be such a bad thing, if the world's economy was not totally dependent on this vital resource. Oh yes and the good news, it is highly unlikely that any more major oil fields will be found.

After looking at just how dependent we are on black gold, the film makers endeavoured to make some suggestions as to how the situation could be improved........oh yes there are solutions, but they need a complete shift in our current way of life.

Hm it was also pointed out that before people actually rise to the occasion, we need a desperate situation. From all accounts it is on its way.
