When I first arrived in Perth, some 30 plus years ago, The Old Brewery was not only a well known land mark but a functioning establishment.
Well times change and things move on. A few years after we arrived the building was sold and after some controversy and conflict, reinvented. Well at least on the inside; much of the exterior retains its old Victorian façade, which, as the only red brick building of any substance nestling on the banks of the Swan, is impressive.
I wandered across the overpass which takes pedestrians from the carpark on one side of Stirling Highway to the restaurant and function venue on the other. Maybe it was the overcast weather but my impression of the actual restaurant was that it was well used if not a little shabby, even though there is no augument about the spectacular views.
When I left I decided to take the lift, big mistake. Have you ever touched something and had it fall apart in your hands. Well I experienced one of those moments.
I pushed a button that I thought indicated up. It fell in, whilst the lift remained motionless. Holding my breath, I pushed another round object. To my relief the doors
Ok, probably I should have gone back into the restaurant and owned up to being a total ditz, but by then I just wanted to leave. I left the way I had arrived, up the stairs.
According to the latest information the brewery is once again in operation and since 2008 has been brewing its own boutique beers.
