About Me

My photo
Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Walter's River Cafe

This casual restaurant is often suggested when I am looking for somewhere to have coffee or lunch. Being situated in a reserve on the river and close to home, it offers both a lovely setting and is easily accessible.

When my very active friend Liz, visited yesterday it was the obvious place to head for, as she enjoys a walk and does not get this way very often, so it was a chance to show her the sights.

We took a leisurely stroll, cameras in hand, along the dual pedestrian, cycle way and arrived rather hot and sweaty at the cafe some twenty minutes later. We were shown to a delightful table with a great view of the river and all its accompanying activity.

Recovering from a period of over indulgence we both turned to the light side of the menu and chose vegetarian salads. Mine, 3 citrus and rocket, was slightly disappointing as there had been a mention of hazelnuts and whether it was the actual nut or an oil dressing, I could sense neither. I also have to point out that my rocket was actually water cress, not quite what I had ordered.

Liz, chose the shaved parmesan and pear which I believe she enjoyed, though she did have to wait a while before her meal made an appearance.

I finished, as usual with a latte, whilst Liz enjoyed a fine cup of green tea. However the most welcome part of the meal was the large bottle of ice cold water which went a long to cooling us down.
