Cities change with the seasons and Melbourne is no exception. Known as the most changeable, weather-wise, of any of the Australian cities Winter is not perhaps the favourite time for tourists to visit. Cold mornings, bitter winds and rain; I'm also assured that hail and sleet have been know to make an appearance. However, I loved it, rain and all.

Taken from the inside of the famous No 96 on its way to St Kilda Beach |
Though to be honest I didn't experience too much of the wet stuff, however I did manage to feel overdressed a couple of times as the temperature soared to a rather warm, July record breaking 23oC. Most of the time Melbourne just felt fresh wearing its Winter coat.
Walking through Fitzroy Gardens was a delight and I was
even more impressed when I discovered Captain Cook's Cottage originally built in 1755. In 1934 it had been transported (much like the convicts) from Great Ayton, a village in Yorkshire, piece by piece by Russell Grimwade as a gift to celebrate Victoria's centenary.
