About Me

Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Feeling a little adventurous?

The Fremantle Prison Tunnel Tour maybe just what is needed. A kilometre of limestone tunnels meander under the prison and some of the main road that runs along the back of it. A scary 20 metre descent via a vertical ladder is quite challenging, especially if scared of heights. Provided with boots, boiler suit, life jacket, miner's helmet and the lifesaving harness we dubiously made our way down the ladder and into the unknown labyrinth of convict dug tunnels.

The guide was entertaining and humorous as well as being a mine of relevant information. He led us crouching through the tunnels describing a variety of features, both natural and man-made. The second part of the tour saw us paddling in small boats through the water filled sections where we passed ancient tree roots. We all agreed the two and a half hour tour was well worth the $59 price tag.
