About Me

Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

DIY

DIY weekends are often part of the working home owner's lot, well certainly in this part of the world.

One of the busiest stores on a Saturday or Sunday is the huge DIY warehouse about 2 kilometres away from where I live. It is open 7 days a week, something our supermarkets fail to do. It sells just about everything needed to establish and maintain a house and garden. I needed to pay it a visit when......

a few weeks ago I began building my first ever brick wall. It is not finished yet, as I am having to learn as I go and where most first timers might try something straight, I decided to complicate the process and add a curve or two. Not the most intelligent thing I have ever done.

Step 1 needed a cement foundation. Luckily a friend helped with the mixing, which was done in a wheelbarrow.
Step 2, (where I am now) required me to learn a brand new skill, i.e. laying bricks. I still have not laid many, but I seem to be getting the idea and the wall is growing, albeit very slowly. It's all part of the plan to have a couple of raised beds and begin growing fruit trees and vegies.

Here is the latest....almost finished, but still obviously a work in progress.
