About Me

My photo
Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Christmas! In July??

Yes, a strange but firmly entrenched tradition particularly, though not exclusively, amongst the ex-pats who have decided to call Australia home. We, who have not quite forgotten our European roots, still have that vague feeling that Christmas should be held in the cool of Winter. All that roast turkey and plum pudding seems quite out of place under the boiling hot sun of an Australian summer's day.

Our weekend retreat was the historic, Yanchep Inn, known to one of our party since her childhood days and apparently used as a troop hospital during WWII.
The atmosphere was certainly festive and our hosts more than entered into the spirit of the evening.

After a sumptuous evening feast, we spent the night in pleasant motel units, followed by a hearty breakfast in a bright diningroom overlooking a rather bedraggled beer garden. Well it is Winter after all.
