About Me

My photo
Perth/Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Sandy Soil

Perth and Fremantle are built on sand, or in gardening terms we have sandy soils.

It is still possible to grow almost anything that will take the heat and fairly cool winters. I spent this morning giving additional water to some of the less drought tolerant plants in my garden.

At this time of, "Climate change", many of my plants are not the most appropriate for Perth's long, hot, dry summers and I should be investing in more suitable ones. Still it is hard to give up my roses and though they have suffered from neglect over the past year with my long absence, they are still hanging in there, even if they are looking a bit straggly. Shortly I intend doing the same as many of my neighbours, who are now planting vegies along side their more showy specimens. It seems we are all becoming a lot more conscious of doing our bit to use our limited resources wisely.
