About Me

An independent, working woman, I live in a riverside suburb close to both Fremantle and Perth. Having lived in Perth for over thirty years it's obvious that I love the place, though there are still things that irritate and make me squirm with embarrassment. Occasionally they will make an appearance; but generally speaking this is a pretty good place to live.

Cricket anyone?

A day of cricket......B......O.......R........I......N........G   I hear many of you reply, but not so for two enthusiastic classes of 11 and 12 year olds we took to a round robin competition.  Both girls and boys loved it and whilst not the usual cricket enthusiasts, they very soon became wildly so.

It never ceases to amaze me just how competitive youngsters can become given the right conditions.  The weather was perfect, well  not really, in fact it became almost unbearably hot hitting around 36 oC around mid-day.  Still unperturbed the students pressed on, learning that bowling,  'a wide' was very costly and that staying close to your wicket was a good way to avoid a, 'run out'.

Hot and humid until a sea breeze swept in to cool the afternoon

Of course it helps if you think you have a good chance of winning against the opposition and as the day progressed both girls and boys could see a potential prize ahead of them.  Sure enough, both teams won first place, though the boys came joint first in their comp. only to be relegated to 2nd on run averages.  Still a most enjoyable day with the girls team coming home with a trophy and to quote one of my students with whom I totally agree. "Beats doing Mental Maths.".
